What we collect

Blocktivity collects the following data:

Visit counts (everyone, no cookies)

Whatever you choose on the cookie banner, our web server records that a page was loaded so we can count visits. Before anything is written down, it removes your IP address and every request header, including cookies and the referring page. What remains is:

  • The page address and the time
  • Your browser's user-agent string, used only to leave out search-engine robots

Nothing is placed on or read from your device for this, and no page sends us anything extra. Once a day these records are reduced to a single number per day, and the records themselves are deleted automatically within four days.

Anonymous analytics (Google Analytics 4)

If you accept cookies, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used. GA4 collects:

  • Pages visited and time spent
  • Approximate country (from IP; IP is not stored by GA4)
  • Device type and browser
  • Referring source (e.g. a search engine or another site)

GA4 is configured to anonymise IP addresses. We do not use remarketing, audience-sharing, or any advertising features. No personally identifiable information (PII) is collected through analytics.

If you accept, your browser also tells our own server once a day that a visitor accepted, so we can count daily visitors without relying only on Google. That message carries no identifier, and we store only the day's total.

Submission and contact data

When you submit a chain or send a message via the contact form, we store the contents of that submission in our database. This includes your email address and any information you provide. We use this solely to process your request and correspond with you. We do not share it with third parties.

Newsletter

If you sign up for the weekly newsletter, we store your email address and send you a link to confirm it. Nothing is sent to you until you click that link. We use the address only to send the newsletter, keep it separate from our other contacts, and do not share it with third parties. Every issue has a one-click unsubscribe link.

Embeddable widget

If you install our free embeddable widget on your own site, each page load pings us once with the domain your widget is embedded on, so we can count how many sites use it. We do not receive or store anything about your site's visitors — no IP address, no cookies, nothing visitor-specific.

Billing country estimation

When you sponsor Blocktivity or book advertising, we estimate your billing country from your IP address so we can prefill the checkout form. You can review and correct this before paying, and we use it only for invoicing, tax compliance, and fraud prevention. The raw IP address is not stored — only a truncated hash of it, alongside the resulting country code.

Your consent choices

When you first visit Blocktivity, a cookie banner appears at the bottom of the screen. You have two options:

  • AcceptEnables Google Analytics. Your choice is remembered in your browser's local storage (not a cookie) for 12 months, then we ask again.
  • Only essentialNo analytics cookies are set. Only your choice itself is kept, in your browser's local storage, so the banner does not appear again for 12 months. The site functions fully.

Google Analytics fires only after you click Accept. If you decline, no GA scripts load. You can change your choice at any time with , here or in the footer of every page. Switching to Only essential deletes the Google Analytics cookies and stops analytics straight away.

Data retention

Analytics data is retained in Google Analytics for 14 months (GA4's default). It is aggregate and anonymous.

Visit records on our web server are deleted automatically within four days. The daily totals made from them, which contain nothing about any visitor, are kept.

Submission and contact data is retained for as long as necessary to process your request and maintain correspondence. If your chain is listed, basic contact details are kept while the listing is active.

Newsletter addresses are kept while you are subscribed. An address that is never confirmed is deleted after 30 days.

To request deletion of any personal data you have submitted, contact us using the form below.

Third-party services

Blocktivity uses the following third-party services:

  • Google Analytics 4 — anonymous usage analytics (consent required; see above).
  • CoinGecko / CoinMarketCap — market price and market cap data, fetched server-side. These services do not receive any visitor data from Blocktivity.
  • DigitalOcean — hosting provider. The server is in a DigitalOcean data centre.

No social-media tracking pixels, no advertising networks, no cross-site tracking cookies are used.
